Be here. Be now. Be SEEN.

March 2010

365, week 35

239 of 365: What is it about an open-mouthed smile that seems so much happier?

240 of 365: Not really my style (because there's no kid!), but it's nice to experiment for this project.

241 of 365: She amazes me--but how in the world can I translate all that sweetness in two dimensions?

242 of 365: Not even officially spring yet, but it reached 90 degrees!

243 of 365: Yummers.

244 of 365: First birthday for a miracle.

245 of 365: I have no comment for this photo.  Maybe if I started looking for insects or other critters on flowers, then I would be more inspired?

365, week 34

232 of 365: The low key monochromatic treatment makes this common marigold from the front yard look much more dramatic than it really is.

233 of 365: We drove to the snow.  We ended up at the beach (twice) and the mountains in the same week...only in So Cal.

234 of 365: Kids have the BEST expressions!

235 of 365: This imperfect photo perfectly captures an honest moment.  Sometimes, I can't believe how much joy photography brings me.

236 of 365: I didn't realize until I was processing this frame that her shirt reads "Flowers".  Happy coincidence!

237 of 365:  He has a mouth full of food.  And I'm shooting down on him--they say never to shoot down on kids.  And yet, I dig this photo so much.  Okay, it might have something to do with the fact that he's my son.

238 of 365:  A little bit of my old life (a well-worn pharmaceutical promotional product) and a little bit of my new life (the coffee within said product that keeps me from collapsing into a narcoleptic spell during the day).

One of these things is not like the others!

Go on.  Use your keen observational skills to vet out which family member finds my humor profounding lacking.

Ha!

That's okay, his mama got him to smile.

And mama-inspired smiles tend to last a while.

365, week 33

Man oh man, I encounter a lot of kids throughout the week!  Fortunately, I take great pleasure in creating their portraits.

225 of 365: Sometimes we meet up at the museum,

226 of 365: or at a playdate,

227 of 365: before school,

228 of 365: in my own kitchen,

229 of 365: or after school.

230 of 365: My dog has a Hitler moustache.  I don't know how I feel about that.

231 of 365: My parents' trees are showing the most exquisite signs of spring.  I love pink flowers; I'm such a girl.

365, week 32

218 of 365: The loquat is plentiful this year!  That means the birds and I won't have to fight over the fruit when they ripen.

219 of 365: My parents were right.  I really should have practiced more when I took those lessons.  But, you know, when you're 8, none of that matters so much.  And by "that", I mean logic and reason.

220 of 365: I enjoy the bokeh in the background more than the flowers in the foreground.

221 of 365: An actual child to balance this botanically heavy week:

222 of 365: I know this photo is over-processed, but I really love it.  Is it wrong to love my own portraiture?  Or maybe it's just wrong to admit it openly.

223 of 365:

224 of 365: Right scene, wrong lens.

Pretty People

Life is so unfair.  The Pretty People really do get their way more often.  So let's say you're this cute:

You own it, baby!  You get to decide whether to play with your parents,

grab the dog's tongue,

or just hang and get loved on all day.

Being adorable is tough work!
